In 2021 leading up to the postponed Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic games the Olympic Connect Tomodachi program was born.
Although not involved in the 2022 legacy version the Australian Olympic Committee created this wonderfully successful program.
Tomodachi means “FRIENDS” in Japanese and in 2021 over 611 classes and 20,000 students (and their passionate teachers) across Australia and Japan shared online language and culture and the spirit of Tokyo 2020.
We are honoured to have our guest speakers who have been great supporters not only of Connect Tomodachi but VIP’s in the Asutralia – Japan relationship.
- Mr Kiya Masahiko – Consul General of Japan
- Mr Mark Connors – Wallaby, Rugby World Cup, Bledisloe Cup Winner and Board Member of the Australia Japan Foundation
- Mr Bob Seidler – Vice Chair of the Australia Japan Business co-operation Committee
- Ms Anne DeKretser – Director of the Monash Centre for Japanese Language Education
- Ms Tanaka Yoko – Director – Japan National Tourism Organisation
- Mr Fukawa Naohiro – Director Indigo Destinations
Connect Tomodachi is a legacy program of Tokyo 2020 and aims to be the #1 place for Tomodachi of the Australia – Japan to exchange, communicate and collaborate.
In 2021 over 90% of participants surveyed answered that they wanted to visit their Tomodachi as soon as it was possible.
As borders slowly open it is time to see each other in person again.
